Why Abundance Mindset is so Important for Personal Growth & Happiness

Imagine for a moment that you are sitting on the top of a mountain. You have just summited your first-ever 14,000-foot peak and are looking out over an incredible vista.

The air is cold but clear, the sun bright but not too hot, the wind whipping past you with enough force to make it feel like flying.

You can see mountains in every direction as far as your eye can see. And all around you are wildflowers–purple lupine, yellow monkeyflowers, lavender tansies–growing alongside rocks covered with green mosses and lichens.

You reach down to touch one of them or maybe pick it for later study back at home where everything is more muted by comparison.

Just as you’re about to pick one, a gentle and familiar voice sounds in your ear: “Don’t pick the flowers.”

You turn to see who it is, but no one is there.

You look back at the flowers and feel almost as if they were alive and pleading with you not to harm them. They are beautiful and fragile–they could be crushed so easily.

You realize that every flower everywhere is just like this one: alive, beautiful, and fragile all at the same time.

And you resolve to leave the flowers untouched…

This story highlights the point of having an abundance mindset–that sometimes we get so caught up in wanting or needing something (in this case a wildflower) that we forget to enjoy what’s already right in front of us.

What Exactly Is Abundance Mindset?

An abundance mindset means that there is always enough for all and that everyone deserves these resources.

It also refers to the way in which you think about life.

Do you see opportunities around every corner? Do you expect to be successful? Are you happy when other people are successful even though it doesn’t affect your own success?

Having an abundance mindset means that when something goes wrong, instead of seeing it as one more thing to add to a list of failures in your life, you see it as a chance to grow in the face of adversity.

Instead of seeing an obstacle as something preventing you from getting what you want, with this mindset, obstacles are potential opportunities for growth and learning.

When you have an abundance mindset, happiness is easier because you are not constantly comparing yourself or your situation to others.

How to Develop Abundance Mindset?

While you can cultivate an abundance mindset without making any specific lifestyle changes, the truth is that you probably won’t be able to travel up a mountain and simply decide out of nowhere to have such a mindset.

Another truth is that it takes effort and practice just as much as it takes desire.

Here are a few steps you can take to cultivate an abundance mindset.

1) Expect Success…Everywhere

When you go about your day, expect success–from yourself and from everyone around you. If someone wants something badly enough, they will do whatever it takes to achieve that goal.

That’s why it’s so important to make sure you know what your goals are and how you plan to achieve them.

A lot of people have hidden potential, but don’t become great at things because they never try it. That shouldn’t happen to you.

2) Be Humble in Your Failures…and Joyous in Your Successes

Everyone fails at some point, and it’s important not to let the stress of failure overshadow any success you feel. When you do fail, think about what you could have done differently or better.

Then learn from that circumstance–especially if it was something out of your control like the weather or someone else. And when things go well for you, acknowledge what you’ve done and thank the people who have helped you along the way.

3) Be Grateful for What You Have…and Generous with It

The most important part of cultivating an abundance mindset is being grateful for what you have.

Start each day by taking a few minutes to think about all the things you’re grateful for, and any time you start to worry or feel upset about something in your life, take a step back and think about what else you have going right.

4) Find Ways to Learn from Others…and Share Your Wisdom

In order to cultivate an abundance mindset, it’s important that you not only look for ways that you can learn from others but also learn to share your wisdom with them.

That might mean writing an article, giving a presentation, or just talking about something you’re passionate about. It doesn’t matter what form it takes–just that you give freely of yourself and the knowledge that you have.

5) Be Confident in Your Self-Worth…and Your Abilities

Finally, in order to cultivate an abundance mindset, it’s important that you have a strong sense of your own self-worth and abilities.

Fully believe in both.

Know that you’re worth everything you want and everything you accomplish–and the only way to accomplish anything is if you don’t allow yourself to get discouraged or depressed when you fail.

When you’re ready to begin cultivating an abundance mindset, remember the story of the wildflower–and understand that just as you shouldn’t crush a flower or two along your path because you want them, you should also never limit yourself and what’s possible for you in life.

While this may seem like a lofty goal and one that takes a lot of time and effort to achieve, the truth is that you can begin cultivating an abundance mindset today just by practising gratitude for what you have, being generous with your wisdom, learning from others, believing in your self-worth, and acting confident even when you don’t feel it.

Give yourself the chance to see success everywhere–and know that the only limitations you have are the ones you choose to put on yourself.

Abundance Mindset Vs Scarcity Mindset

The abundance mindset differs from the scarcity mindset in that there is an overwhelming feeling of fullness and satisfaction with the abundance.

Scarcity on the other hand may be caused by ungratefulness, jealousy, anger, and envy. Scarcity is often defined as a state of mind that limits the thinking and behaviour of any person or group.

The abundance mindset encourages an individual to see opportunities everywhere, recognize their true potential, accept failure as part of the process, be grateful for what’s around them, share their knowledge freely with others, believe in themselves, and have confidence in themselves.

The scarcity mindset is usually caused by someone who has experienced a significant loss. Loss can be in the form of losing something valuable, being rejected, or having their needs go unfulfilled.

As a result of this loss, they are likely to believe that no one will fulfil their needs again. They begin to see themselves as less worthy of the things they had before their loss.

The scarcity mindset is often caused by feelings of powerlessness or helplessness. Scarcity might also be a result of someone’s limited beliefs and/or negative thinking.

To begin cultivating a mindset of abundance, start by taking a minute or two each day to think about what you’re grateful for. Then anytime you start worrying or feeling upset about something in your life, take a step back and think about all the amazing things you have going for you.

Doing this will help you to not only appreciate what’s in your life but also understand that there are so many opportunities around you and you shouldn’t be afraid of exploring different possibilities in your life.

How to Move from Scarcity Mindset to Abundance Mindset?

I’d like to talk about how we can move from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset now.

You can cultivate an abundance mindset by taking time to focus on all the good you have in your life, practising generosity, learning from others, believing in your own worth, and acting confident even when you don’t feel it.

If you have a friend who’s doing well, don’t begrudge them for it–be happy for them. If they’re having success, they deserve it and the more good things they have in their life, the more opportunities will come your way as well!

Remember that the power to achieve what you want is within you –you control what you allow into your life. Being an optimist and having a positive outlook on life is the key to happiness.

If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will –you won’t be able to reach your full potential and thus not enjoy the benefits of hard work and perseverance since you’ll constantly doubt whether or not those efforts are worth it

Become more aware of your thoughts and learn to recognize when you’re having negative thoughts. Take a step back and challenge those negative thoughts. Are they based on real-world evidence or past experience? Or are they just making mountains out of molehills?

The surest way to cultivate an abundance mindset is by becoming more mindful of the present moment. By paying attention to what is happening now, you can experience life as it unfolds instead of dwelling on negative (or positive) thoughts about the past or future.

By focusing on your current surroundings and only engaging with things that are right in front of you, you can train yourself to live “in the now.” You’ll be able to enjoy the beauty in life’s simplest things and also become more aware of any negative thoughts or emotions before they spiral out of control.

Whether you’re failing to get a promotion at work or your relationships aren’t going as well as you’d like, your mindset will determine how long it takes for you to bounce back.

If you have a scarcity mindset, it might take years for you to get over that failure and pick yourself back up. Whereas, if you have an abundance mindset, you can overcome these challenges much more easily because of your ability to quickly identify the opportunities in every situation.

Using Abundance Mindset In Different Phases of Life

You’re well aware that life changes constantly. It would be hard to go through all those phases without ever changing your mindset, and it is more than possible for you to do so!

A lot of times people use one-way thinking in certain situations because they’ve been brainwashed into believing it is right or true, but with an abundance mentality, everything becomes different.

As soon as we change our point-of-view on an issue from scarcity mindedness (where there isn’t enough) over to sufficiency attitude (have what I need), then suddenly things start looking up.

In Dating

The abundance mindset is a concept that can be applied to many areas of life, including dating.

There are a few benefits of having an abundance mindset in the world of dating. The first is that it helps you to see that there is plenty of other fish in the sea.

Even if you’ve been burned recently, have a negative past experience, or just aren’t feeling hopeful about love right now, thinking positively about meeting someone new can put you in a better mindset and help prevent negative thinking.

One of the ways these works is by making dating seem less like a competition and more like an adventure. Instead of focusing on whoever might be dating your crush, you focus on meeting all kinds of new people.

This way, when someone like your crush does finally come along, you’re excited for them, because it’s not all about you.

abundance mindset for dating

Another benefit of an abundance mindset in dating is that it makes you less likely to settle for someone who isn’t really right for you. When focusing on meeting new people instead of worrying about how the person you have your eye on feels about you, you might meet someone who is a better fit for you.

Finally, the abundance mindset helps you to be more open-minded about dating. Rather than being closed off and guarded or going into a date expecting negativity, an abundance mindset helps keep your mind open to new possibilities and experiences.

As long as you aren’t using the mindset of abundance to be unkind, it can help to turn a situation that might seem negative into something more positive and optimistic. This way of thinking is not only helpful in dating but also in life in general.

Around Food

There are many advantages of having a mindset of abundance around food.

The first is that it makes eating healthier food decisions easier to make. When you believe there is abundance in the world, you are more likely to be willing to give new foods a try because you won’t see them as competition for your current diet.

The second benefit of an abundance mindset when it comes to food is that it helps you to feel less restricted, making it easier to stick with your diet.

When you believe there are plenty of other foods out there that can make you happy, you’re less likely to indulge in ‘one food’ simply because it’s not on your diet.

Finally, an abundance mindset allows for more flexibility when it comes to eating. If believing that there is abundance in the world means you’re more likely to try new foods, it makes sense that believing there is abundance in food choices would make it easier to be flexible with your diet.

For example, if you like eating meat but are visiting a country where most people eat primarily vegetables, an abundance mindset allows you to relax your meat-eating habits. The end result is that you are able to stick with your diet, stay healthy, and also satisfy your curiosity about the local cuisine.

Abundance Mindset With Money

When we have an abundance mentality, it changes how we view money.

With a scarcity mindset, we worry about the day our savings will run out. We feel like we’ll never be able to make enough to cover all of our expenses or that our income might not be stable.

With an abundance mindset, you are happy to get by with what you have and are willing to save for when you really need it. You know the universe is providing for you and that there are opportunities around every corner.

You can live your life without worry or anxiety because you know that everything is always going according to plan. When you have an abundance mindset, it becomes much easier to give away money for good causes.

When we worry about things like how much we make or what we will need for the future, it’s natural to become more stingy with our resources.

When we believe there is scarcity around us and in our lives, giving anything away feels like a waste. With an abundance mindset, it feels like giving is not only more fun but also necessary and you are confident that the universe will give you back more than what you gave away.

Another way that having an abundance mentality helps with money is that you feel less guilty spending it on things like entertainment or experiences.

Since you know the universe will provide for you, there isn’t a need to hold onto your money tightly so you can spare yourself the extra expenses.

This mindset also helps to alleviate any guilt or anxiety about spending money on material items because it means that you are able to provide for yourself and your loved ones.

An abundance mentality makes your life easier no matter what kind of situation you find yourself in. With this mentality, there is no need to worry because you know that things will always work themselves out in the end.

Instead of becoming stressed or struggling with money problems, you are able to live freely knowing that everything is alright regardless of how much money you have in the bank.

What’s wonderful about having this mentality is that it doesn’t just help you become more successful with money, it helps you be happier and feel better every day!

The Positive Effects of Changing Your Mindset to Abundance

An abundance mindset can help you overcome many difficult situations in life because it makes it easier for you to see opportunities instead of challenges. This way of thinking goes along with many other concepts like optimism, flexibility, and open-mindedness.

When you believe there is abundance everywhere – whether in food choices, opportunities for love, or whatever else might seem scarce – you are more likely to be happy.

It isn’t necessarily about getting whatever it is that you want; it’s about changing your mindset so that you can see the opportunities around you.
